Professor Thome's research interests focus on stress-related disorders including depression and anxiety disorders, psychoses, adult ADHD, psychopharmacology and interdisciplinary aspects of psychiatry including psychotherapy and philosophy.

He heads a research team at the Medical School of Swansea University, using molecular techniques to understand the neurobiological basis of psychiatric disorders.

He has published more than 100 articles in scientific journals and is a regular speaker at international scientific conferences, as well as at local events such as continuing education seminars for doctors and mental health professionals, self-help groups and other volunteer organisations.
